FIRESIDE POEMS:
SEE YOU ANYMORE
You kneel at my throne, head down like a wilting flower.
I cared for you once ‘til the day you thought me a coward.
Strong every moment but at my weakest by my attachment devoured.
When suddenly our passion once bountiful turned fruitless and sour.
You made pleasure wash over me like a harrowing flood.
Your charm and your grace made me forget who I was.
You knocked me down like a torrential rain, my face in the mud,
But do not be fooled: A courageous heart does not pump a coward’s blood.
You thought you could cage me like a beast locked away.
Turned my heart into a cave filled with the stench of death and decay.
Stole my love and my joy like a thief come to lead me astray.
You fooled me once, but I always live to fight another day.
Peace is a man’s true respite, a good woman his only delight,
But, like a comforting darkness, you came to extinguish my light.
Now from my throne I speak: “Go with my best wishes but be gone from my sight.”
I suppose it is true: The brightest of days come after the darkest of nights.
