FIRESIDE POEMS:

NOW THAT I’M GONE

There’s tears in her eyes now that I’m gone,

That dispel the harmonies from our dearest held songs.

Star-crossed some say, yes, our love was strong.

Now forever without her only feels too long.

I refused to give her darkness power even before we’d begun,

Only mists to be banished by the rising morn sun.

I told her “ghosts are not real”, but still she would run.

And for all of our folly, our journey’s now done.

One last time I pray for her touch even in our love’s death throes.

I loved her through it all, through the highs and the lows.

She never would have released me, this we both know,

And I would have held her forever if not for the path that she chose.

Her love was pure, no other could charm her.

I slew every dragon that threatened to harm her.

I was the rain in her forest, the sun in her arbor.

I was her prince, her knight in shining armor.
