FIRESIDE POEMS:
I MUST WIN
It’s a burden I now bear, the price of the throne I ascend.
Power came like a storm, and never once did it call me “friend”.
A soldier to fate, I have no peace but a duty to defend.
To lead is to bleed and to struggle so others might mend.
I raised sword and banner and never once turned away,
when all I long for is the quiet, wishing only for peace to stay.
I fight for their hope and their safety, and for the price that I pay,
They sing of my strength as sure as the night turns into day.
I see shadows behind every vow I ever swore,
And silence now echoes through the halls I gilded in war.
I traded love for duty— and what was it for?
Some truths leave you hollow, begging the Lord for no more.
Every oath I upheld carved another scar in my skin,
A mark for every victory, defeat, triumph, and sin.
I fought for the realm, and though I lost what I might’ve been,
Every battle I fight for my kin is a fight I must win.
